On-campus accommodations offer a variety of living options including traditional halls, semi-suites (e.g. two bedrooms connected by a bathroom), suite-style units (e.g. bedrooms sharing a common area), and apartment-style units (bedrooms, bathroom, private kitchen, furnished common area).  Residence halls may be single-gender or mixed-gender by floor, wing, room, suite, or apartment.  Several buildings are home to living groups which include wellness floors, fraternity and sorority chapter houses, and special interest houses.

Building Basics

Building Access

Residence halls are locked 24 hours a day.  Your Pard Card (student ID) is programmed for access to your own residence hall 24 hours a day.  You will also have cross-visitation access to other general residence halls between 8am – 10pm daily.  (Off-campus students, commuters, and fraternity house residents do not have residence hall access).

Fire Detection and Suppression

Smoke detectors and sprinkler systems are installed in all student rooms, hallways, and public areas, in accordance with state building codes.  Evacuation drills are scheduled on a regular basis. Fire safety procedures can be found on the Public Safety website.

Furniture

Your bedroom will be furnished with four standard accessories: a loftable bed (needs extra-long twin sheets), dresser, desk, and desk chair. In rooms that do not have built-in closets, the College also provides a wardrobe. Some rooms with multiple students may be equipped with a half wardrobe. Apartments also contain common area furnishings. All College-provided furniture must remain in your residence.

Kitchens and Lounges

Cooking facilities are provided in all residence halls. Appliances in building kitchens vary (stoves, ovens, microwaves, refrigerators). Residence halls also include a variety of social and study spaces for all building residents.  A 24 hour study lounge is available to all resident students in Soles Hall.

Laundry

The College contracts with an outside vendor to provide energy efficient laundry machines in the residence halls. Laundry access is included in the housing fee.  Residents of Watson Courts and College-owned, off-campus properties are given access to the laundry room in Soles Hall basement (exterior entrance located off the Health Center parking lot).  Students in private off-campus housing DO NOT have access to the College laundry facilities.

Student Staff

Resident Advisors (RAs) are assigned to each residential community and charged with fostering relationships among and delivering services to residents. Resident Advisors work cooperatively with other residence hall and College staff to promote a welcoming environment that is conducive to learning and developing personal connections. The job of the RA combines many roles: information resource, activities organizer, liaison to the Office of Residence Life, adviser, and friend.  From 10pm – 7am every night, each building has a designated on-duty RA. The duty RA is available to respond to emergencies, report problems, and answer questions.
