College-owned and affiliated residence halls and off-campus properties close at noon on Tuesday, May 14th for all non-graduating students. This date has been set in accordance with the academic calendar and publicized well in advance to allow students to make plans accordingly.

Closing and move-out procedures are different depending on your class year and summer plans. Please review the information below and make your departure plans accordingly.

  • Non-graduating students are expected to move out and depart campus within 24 hours of their last academic commitment or by noon on Tuesday, May 14th (whichever is earliest).
  • Under limited circumstances, students may request a delayed departure up to May 19th by completing an Extended Stay Request through MyHousing by May 1.  Requests are only approved for certain unavoidable travel circumstances (e.g. flight schedule limitations), sibling graduating, or approved activity with a College department/program. Other reasons (e.g. wanting to attend graduation) will NOT BE APPROVED. Requests will be reviewed and a decision communicated on a rolling basis up to the last day of classes.
  • Graduating seniors may remain in housing until noon on Monday, May 20

Non-graduating Students

Room Check-out

Non-seniors are expected to depart campus within 24 hours of their last scheduled exam.  Students will select a planned departure day through the scheduler in MyHousing.  The scheduler opens mid-April and closes on the last day of classes.

At your registered check-out time, please remove all personal belongings and tidy/clean the space before departing.  A key envelope will be provided in advance in which to return your room key(s) to a key drop box around campus. 

A non-refundable $100 fee will be assessed for keys not returned upon departure in addition to the standard lock change charge. Checkpoints should NOT be returned unless you are  transferring or otherwise leaving the College permanently.

During the closing period, 24-hour key drop boxes will be located at:

Farinon Center (under the porch, facing the quad)

Public Safety (outside the main entrance to 901 Bushkill)

Keefe Hall (outside main entrance on South College Drive)

Kamine Hall (under the porch, facing Rubin Hall)

Marquis Hall (by dining hall entrance)

McCartney North (inside main entrance)

Watson Courts (under the pass through by the bulletin board)

Watson Hall (next to bike rack)

Closing Checklist

In order to facilitate a smooth and proper check-out, as you prepare your room please remember to do the following tasks:

-Close and lock windows.
-Clean & empty refrigerator.  For rental units, disconnect and leave door partially open for ventilation.
-Sweep/vacuum floor.
-Empty trash into hall containers/dumpsters or curbside.
-Dust furniture surfaces.
-Clean kitchen, suite bathroom, & common areas (as applicable).
-Verify that all college furniture is present.
-Remove all personal items from drawers, closets, walls, etc.
-Lock room/exterior  door as you leave.
-Return room key to designated locations (see: “See Room Check Outs”)

Damage Inspections

At the conclusion of the Spring semester, Facilities Operations staff will conduct damage inspections in all residence facilities.

To avoid damage charges, be sure your room is in proper condition—no damage to walls, furniture present, room clean, free of personal items, etc— prior to your departure.

Safety and Security

During the move-out period, the possibility of theft increases. To keep your belongings safe, please be sure to lock your room door and vehicle.

For your safety and that of your fellow residents, be mindful of individuals coming in and out of your residence hall. Report all suspicious activity to the Office of Public Safety.

Graduating Students

As a graduating senior, you are automatically approved to stay in college housing through noon on Monday, May 20th, the day after graduation.  Under limited circumstances,  an alternate departure date may be arranged.  Housing fees will apply.  Contact the Residence Life Office via email no later than May 1st to make a request.

When you are ready to check-out, please remove all personal belongings and tidy/clean the space before departing.  A key envelope will be provided in advance in which to return your room key(s) to a key drop box around campus.

Summer Students

If you have submitted a Summer Housing application by the priority deadline and your registered arrival date is the first day of the summer term, you are pre-approved to stay through to the start of Summer housing.

If you register for a summer housing arrival after the first day of summer housing, please follow the instructions for spring housing check out as they are listed above in the “non-graduating student” information. You will not be able to leave items in your spring room until you return.

Summer Storage

Storage

The Residence Life storage options for the Summer can be viewed here. If you currently have items stored in a Residence Life storage areas, they must be removed by May 1st, or they are subject to being discarded or donated. Contact an RA to make an appointment for access to remove items. No new items may be placed in storage prior to the start of the drop off schedule for this year.

Green Move Out

Green Move Out is a campus-wide sustainability and community service effort where students recycle their unused or gently used items by donating them to local organizations and responsibly dispose of or recycle items that can no longer be used to divert them from landfill trash.  For more information about donating, recycling opportunities, or volunteering please look at the Green Move Out website.
